America's Changing Demographics and its Effect on Democracy

Featuring Dr. Barbara F. Walter, Rohr Professor of International Affairs at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego. Professor Walter is a renowned expert on political violence and civil wars and the author of How Civil Wars Start: And How to Stop Them. Professor Walter shared insights from her latest research and critically acclaimed work recognized globally for its contributions to understanding conflict and democracy. 

The first 50 registrants received a copy of Professor Walter's book.

UC San Diego hosted the “Combatting Antisemitism and Islamophobia: Best Practices in Challenging Times,” presented by the Applied Research Center for Civility, an initiative of UC San Diego and the National Conflict Resolution Center. The conference took place September 22-23 at UC San Diego Park and Market.

The conference brought together thought leaders from around the country to discuss best practices for addressing religious intolerance, specifically Antisemitism and Islamophobia. Experts shared insights, multi-layered strategies and real-world experiences on working toward a better future.

Shortly after the 2024 U.S. presidential election, an insightful event featured academic presentations by Dahlia Scheindlin, an Israeli political analyst, pollster, and author of “The Crooked Timber of Democracy in Israel,” and Khalil Shikaki, director of the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, as they explored public opinion within Israeli and Palestinian societies and discuss prospects for the future. Stephan Haggard led a dynamic and in-depth discussion with the speakers, bringing their perspectives together for an informative conversation.
